Computex is set to be a battleground for Nvidia and AMD to reveal their mainstream GPUs of the latest generation. Nvidia’s silent unveiling of the RTX – 5060 Ti and RTX – 5060 has sparked suspicions that it is trying to downplay the 8GB RAM on both cards. VideoCardz reported anonymously that Nvidia informed board partners it would launch the RTX 5060
on May 19. Reviews will be available the same day. This gives customers little time to compare third-party benchmarks and decide whether they want to buy what could become the most popular Blackwell card.
Blackwell revealed all specifications earlier this month, but held back launch and review dates. The RTX-5060, with its 3,840 CUDA Cores, 2.5GHz boost clock and $300 price tag, offers a slightly better value than 4060, and a meaningful upgrade to the 3060 – aside from the limited VRAM.
The marketing for the RTX5060 Ti and standard RTX5060 has been focused primarily on 16GB Ti variant. Our reviews show that the $430 GPU is a good option for 4K gaming, but reducing its memory pool to just 8GB changes the story.
The RTX 5060 will be no different, as it only offers 8GB configuration. Steam survey data consistently places 60-class cards as the most popular. This makes the 5060 an important release for Nvidia. The embargo on the release day suggests that the company is setting a trap for its customers.
The release date of the RTX-5060 falls one day before AMD’s response for the 16GB RTX-5060 Ti – Radeon RX9060 XT. AMD’s mainstream cards are still a mystery, and the release date for the standard 9060 is not known. However, the company will likely follow Nvidia’s VRAM pattern, frustrating users that can’t afford to pay more than $300 for a GPU.
Supply disruptions due to inflation and tariffs has affected Nvidia and AMD. Both companies are unwilling to sacrifice their margins for memory modules. This reluctance is likely to hinder GPU development and limit meaningful improvements in the mainstream price range.
