Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang announced a new partnership between the company, Google DeepMind and Disney Research, which will bring AI-powered Star Wars robotics to life.
On Tuesday, Huang announced Blue, a Star Wars research robot that can perform movements similar to those in sci-fi films. The companies have collaborated to create Newton, a physics engine that is behind the robot’s movements. It will be released as an open source later this summer.
Huang stated, “Can you believe you’re looking at complete real-time simulation? This is how we’re going to train robots in the future. Blue has two Nvidia computers inside.” Nvidia CEO went on to interacted with Blue on stage before telling it to go home.
Nvidia’s press release reads: “Newton is open source, empowering the entire robotics community. This enables roboticists to use and distribute the framework freely and contribute cutting-edge research to its development.”
This is all very proof-of-concept for the consumer. So what does Nvidia and Google’s collaboration with Disney mean for you and I? We might not see the benefits any time soon, but after watching Blue in action, I’m convinced Disney’s dream of having robots in Disney World will now become a realty.
A report from last week revealed that Disney’s dream of having droids in Disney World is now a reality. Axios (19459072) at SXSW stated Disney plans to showcase the robots at its entertainment parks this year. GTC 2025 – YouTube
I’ve always wanted to have a robot. Please make this a realty
I know robots can be scary, but I understand. As someone who struggles to cope with the stress of 21st century life, I would absolutely jump at the chance to have a Star Wars Droid in my house.
I love my French Bulldog Kermit but he cannot do the dishes or the washing up. He also can’t hear me (although I believe he chooses not to listen).
This concept of a cute little robot doing my chores at home isn’t going to happen anytime soon. But Newton’s physics engines makes it a reality in the near future. I’m sold.
If you can give me a robot with AI that makes my life easier, I’ll borrow money to buy one. My productivity would increase, my mental health improve, and I would never have to do dishes again.
