NVIDIA could launch new AI chip samples that are export-compliant in June
NVIDIA is redesigning their AI chips to comply US export restrictions against China. According to The Information the company informed its major Chinese clients, including ByteDance Alibaba and Tencent, of the changes. The report states that CEO Jensen Huang personally conveyed the message to Beijing during a visit in mid-April. The move comes after the US government decided to add NVIDIA’s H20 chip – the most advanced model that is allowed for sale in China – to its export control list. This effectively banned its distribution. Sources claim that NVIDIA has informed Chinese customers that any future downgraded chip model will require US Department of Commerce prior approval before export. The first samples may be available as soon as June.[
