Nvidia accused by critics of delaying RTX5060 reviews due to withholding drivers

Facepalm Nvidia hid the 8GB variant of the RTX-5060 Ti from reviewers in order to delay coverage which would have exposed its significant performance deficiencies compared to the version 16GB. The launch of the RTX 5060, the most affordable RTX 50 Series product to date, is fast approaching. However, multiple outlets have accused Nvidia of repeating the tactic of withholding drivers.

TechSpot Hardware Unboxed Hardwareluxx PC Games Hardware and Igor’s Lab Recently The company confirmed that they will not receive drivers for Nvidia’s upcoming RTX-5060 graphics card until the graphics cards launch on May 19, delaying reviews at least until then. Consumers will have limited or no opportunity to review third-party performance benchmarks prior to purchasing this mainstream-tier GPU.

While hardware manufacturers release the initial drivers for new graphic cards on launch day in general, press and review sites receive them in advance to allow early analysis. Over the past 30 years, this is how most things have worked. Without launch or revision drivers, PCs won’t recognize new GPUs, or will operate them incorrectly, making benchmarking impossible.

Can confirm! This means that we won’t be able to test the RTX 5060 for us on the 19th of May, as almost the entire team will be at Computex. This means that we will not be able to test the RTX 5060 during Computex Week. This is bad for consumers, not just for us. https://t.co/VDOpybbFqP

Several outlets have accused Nvidia of trying to bury negative coverage of its latest 8GB GPUs. Reviewers were unable to test the 8GB RTX5060 Ti before its release, and later reviews revealed that it performed significantly worse in many games than the 16GB variant. TechSpot’s most recent analysis shows that the 8GB RTX5060 Ti is often inferior to Intel’s Arc B580 12GB, a cheaper GPU priced at least one tier lower than the RTX5060 Ti.

Moreover launching the RTX 5060 during Computex will ensure that some outlets such as us/Hardware Unboxed, and Hardwareluxx are busy covering the event in order to properly scrutinize GPU. Delaying reviews of a $300 mainstream graphics card is especially concerning, as Steam survey trends indicate that it will be the most popular model within the RTX series lineup.

RTX 5060Ti reviews show the card’s ability to run 4K gaming at a high enough VRAM. The Arc B580 compares the 12GB minimum requirement for mainstream GPUs.

The RTX5060’s 3,840 CUDA Cores, 2.5GHz boost clock and neural rendering support will provide a decent performance increase over the 4060 or 3060. Its main rival, AMD’s Radeon RX 9060 XT launches on May 18th.
