Casio’s upcoming Edifice EFS-S650DC-1A model gets an official listing, with new high-res images showing off a sleek all-black look, complemented by a ceramic bezel and solar power. It launches this month, alongside two other variants.
In comparison to its navy or green siblings that were listed on the first of July, this black model is the most understated. The dial’s vertical pattern is barely visible from certain angles. It has a modern, clean finish. This also makes it appear flatter, especially when the light is low, as the contrast between the indices and subdials is muted, despite the polished accents.
In the renders we can see that the subdials have the same radial pattern of the dial background. This ties the entire design together. The central seconds hand is painted in a copper tone to add a pop of color.

Case size remains at 46.7 mm long and 40.9 mm wide, with a thickness of 11.7 mm. It’s a bit slimmer than older Edifice models, like the EFS S570 series with chunkier bezels, and more refined lugs.
The features are standard Edifice – a 1-second stopwatch with 3 subdials and a solar-powered movement. It is also 100-meters water resistant, has a 5-month reserve of battery, and comes with rechargable batteries. The black model is less flashy than the ceramic bezel models. You’ll notice that the ceramic is less prominent than the other two models if you are buying it for the ceramic.
The bracelet is still quite solid and the ceramic insert combined with the all metal construction should give it an excellent balance of weight and scratch-resistance. Casio could have made this model more visually appealing by adding a little contrast to the dial, or even using a brushed finish for the indices. We can expect the watch to be available very soon, as it has been listed on the official website, but without the ‘Preorder or Buy Now’ button.
