In 2022, Microsoft integrated (mostly) the free video editor Clipchamp in Windows 11. Microsoft 365 also includes Clipchamp, a hidden gem. Clipchamp was boosted last year with several AI features.

Microsoft announced earlier this week in a blog a new version Clipchamp was rolling out. It will have several major improvements to make video editing easier. The new features include support for dark and light mode, improved asset organisation, and timestamps on the editing timeline.

Here’s the most important new features in Clipchamp.

  • The light mode: Clipchamp previously was only available in the dark mode. Now you can switch between the system, dark and light modes, the latter of which is based on Windows settings.
  • Improved Asset Organization: Multiple assets, such as text, music and images, can be grouped together in the timeline. This allows for a more clear view, with a thumbnail showing the items that are part of the group. Clipchamp’s new layout is more user-friendly. It has options to minimize the sidebars, zoom into and out of timeline, play videos in full-screen, undo or redo actions, and add AI generated subtitles.
  • More precise editing of the timeline: Now you can see timestamps when hovering over a timeline or cutting a clip. This makes it easier to make precise changes.

The update is now being rolled out for Clipchamp users with Personal accounts, while those who use Clipchamp under a Work account can expect to see the changes in March. This article was originally published in our sister publication PC for Alla (19459027) and has been translated and localized.
