Imagine that you are in a meeting with a client, or other team members and your preferred languages do not match. Communication barriers can lead to misunderstandings, and even issues, when working together. A translator is not always available.
Microsoft announced a new feature at Ignite 2024 that uses artificial intelligence not only to translate words from one to another in real-time, but also to emulate the speaker’s intonation, mannerisms, and voice. Microsoft has said that a preview of the “AI interpreter feature” will be available in early 2025. However, it is not known when this feature will be made available to all versions of Teams.
Initially, the Teams interpreter will support nine languages, including English, Chinese (Mandarin), Korean and German. It will also support Italian, Japanese, French, Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese. Users can also choose whether the interpreter should mimic their voice. The translated audio, for example, sounds like you’re the one speaking Spanish.
