Meta’s head AI research plans to depart the company

Joelle Pineau, Meta’s VP for AI research, announced her plans to leave the company in a Facebook post on Tuesday. Pineau announced that she will be leaving Meta in May, after spending more than two years managing FAIRMeta’s internal AI lab headed by Yann LeCun. Pineau’s departure comes as Meta ramps-up its AI efforts. . Meta spokespersontold Bloomberg News that the company is not currently looking for a replacement for Pineau, but they are conducting a search. Meta reportedly reorganized the company last year to have its AI unit report to the chief product officer of the company, Chris Cox.

Pineau will take some time before jumping into a “new adventure” that is yet to be named.
