Meta releases its CapCut Rival Edits globally
Meta announced on February 2nd that it will officially launch Edits, a video-creation application similar to CapCut. Edits, which is available globally, will allow creators do things like track video ideas, get inspired by new content, and make videos using AI and effects. The app is available for download on iOS Android.
The app will launch with all features available for free. However, Instagram head Adam Mosseri Earlier this month it was reported that future versions of Edits could include paid features.
In January, the company announced that it was developing Edits after ByteDance’s CapCut app was temporarily removed from U.S. App Stores when TikTok was banned. Meta is prepared to take advantage of CapCut’s potential absence in the U.S., even though the app is now available for download and has been online since January.
The launch allows Meta and Instagram, as well as other creators, to encourage them to use Edits instead of CapCut to create all their short-form videos. Instagram’s announcement post states that Edits was designed to help video creators create videos for Instagram, Facebook, and “any platform.” This is likely to be a reference towards competitors like TikTok, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok.
One major difference between Edits (and CapCut) is that Edits allows you to export videos without watermarks. CapCut Pro is required to export videos without watermarks.
In terms of the features, the “Ideas’ tool allows you to write down ideas for new video, while the “Projects’ feature helps you organize, manage and store different creations. The “Inspirations tool” lets you browse popular audio to create videos using audio you discover. The “Green Screen” feature of
edits allows you to replace the background in your videos. The “Timeline” function allows you to arrange and adjust clips. You can also add music from Instagram to your videos and automatic captions.
You can also turn static images into video using AI, thanks to the “Animate” function of the app. With the “Cutouts”you can isolate specific objects using precision tracking.
Once your video is complete, you can share it straight to Instagram or Facebook within the app. You can also export the video and post it on another platform.
Edits also features insights that can help you learn about your content strategy and factors that could impact your reach and distribution.
Meta has teased a few new features that will be available on Edits in the future, including a āModifyā tool that will allow creators to use AI to alter the ālook and feelā of their videos. Additionally, a āKeyframesā feature lets users pick specific moments to change the position, rotation, or size of their clips.
Plus, creators will soon be able to collaborate with other creators or brands to get feedback on their drafts. Meta also plans to release more fonts, text animations, transitions, voice effects, filters, sound effects, and music options in the future.
