Meta launches standalone AI chat application based on Llama 4 based for iPhone and iPad

Meta released its first standalone AI application for the iPhone and iPad. Meta AI is based on Meta’s Llama 4 and features a dedicated text and voice chat interface. There’s a social feed to discover new ways of using AI.

Meta AI has replaced the Meta View app, which was previously used to manage Meta smart glasses. Meta has already integrated its AI bot across Facebook, Instagram Messenger, and WhatsApp. Meta AI has a standalone web experience at meta.ai. Launching a dedicated AI-chat bot app brings attention to the technology, with a rival to ChatGPT and other apps like Grok, Grok, Gemini, and Claude.

Although speaking with AI by using your voice is not new, we have improved our underlying model to deliver responses that are more personal, relevant, and conversational. The app also integrates with Meta AI features such as image generation and editing. This can all be done via a voice or text chat with your AI assistant.

You can also toggle on/off a voice demonstration built with full duplex speech technology. This technology will provide a more natural voice, as it is trained on conversational dialog. The AI will not be reading responses but instead generating them directly. It does not have access to real-time or web information, but it is a glimpse of the future. We wanted people to experiment with it to get a feel for the future. We’ll continue to collect feedback so that we can improve the experience. You may encounter technical problems or inconsistencies.

To use the Meta AI app, you only need a Meta account. You can connect your Facebook or Instagram accounts to personalize Meta AI.

Our decades of experience personalizing people’s livesacross our platforms will be used to make Meta AI even more personal. Meta AI can be told to remember certain details about you, such as that you like to travel and are interested in learning new languages. It can also learn important details from context. Your Meta AI assistant can also provide more relevant answers by using informationthat you have already shared on Meta products. This includes your profile and content you enjoy or engage with. In the US and Canada, personalized responses are now available. Meta AI can also draw on your Facebook and Instagram accounts if they are added to the same Accounts Center. This will allow you to get a more personalized experience.

Meta has a social component, with a dedicated feed, where people can share AI prompts and discover them, something that happens organically in other social media feeds.

Meta AI was built to connect you with people and things that matter to you, just like our other platforms. The Meta AI app has a Discover feed where you can share and learn how others use AI. You can view the best prompts that people have shared, or remix them and make them yours. As always, you are in control. Nothing is shared on your feed unless it’s something you post.
