Meta AI now uses your Facebook and Instagram activity for its recommendations

Meta gives its AI assistant an improved “memory”in order to make it more useful. The latest AI update from the company allows its AI assistant to “remember specific details that you shared with it in 1:1 Chat” and use your past Facebook and Instagram activity to make more customized recommendations.

The change will be initially available in the US and Canada. Meta AI will then be able track your preferences using the information you share with it during chat. In a In a blog postthe company uses food allergies and other dietary requirements as an example so that meta AI “remembers” to recommend recipes which fit your needs.

The assistant will be able track other details, such as information about your personal relationships and life. (Meta allows you to track Meta AIโ€™s memories about yourself and remove specific details. Meta AI is now able to use your past Facebook and Instagram activity to inform its interactions.

The company notes that Meta AI could suggest weekend activities based upon the location you have identified on your Facebook page and the Reels you have watched. Meta’s systems are able to make recommendations that are as accurate as Meta’s advertising in-app.

When Meta was asked for more information about how Facebook and Instagram activity could be used to make these types of recommendations, a Meta representative pointed to the Help Center. The Meta AI updates come amid the increasing hype surrounding DeepSeek’s AI assistant, which is currently the most popular app in Apple’s App store. The sudden popularity of DeepSeek, an AI assistant that was allegedly developed for less than six million dollars, has rattled some investors as well as those in the AI industry. Yann Le Cun is Meta’s Chief Artificial Intelligence Scientist. He said on Monday : “The market reactions to DeepSeek have been woefully unjustified.”
