IFC Eyes $10M investment in Senegalese AI Health Startup KERA (19459000)

IFC, part of the World Bank Group plans to invest $10 million in KERA Health Platforms, a Senegalese start-up that uses artificial intelligence (AI), to digitize and transform health care delivery across West Africa.

KERA’s platform is designed to improve access to healthcare–especially for underserved groups like informal sector workers and women–by reducing costs, speeding up payments, and improving service quality using smart AI tools.

This funding, which is expected to be approved on June 20, will support KERA’s mission to streamline health systems in the WAEMU Region, where access to healthcare continues to be a major challenge.

Why It Matters:West Africa is facing a severe shortage of healthcare workers, with only 1.5 doctors per 1,000 residents. KERA’s AI platform aims at bridging that gap by assisting clinics and healthcare providers to make faster, more accurate decision and scale services more effectively.

IFC’s support extends beyond funding. KERA will benefit from assistance in the following areas:

  • Environmental and social safeguards
  • Corporate Governance
  • Grievance systems for employees

Backed By IFC Since 2023

The $10 million injection, if approved, could help KERA scale up its impact in the region and become a model of AI-powered health platforms on the continent.
