Huawei HarmonyOS 6 now available in Dev Beta with new AI agent framework

Today, Huawei launched its Developer Conference. Executive Director Richard Yu announced HarmonyOS 6, the next major release of Huawei’s in-house software.

HarmonyOS 6 includes the usual tweaks, improvements, and design polish. But the OS’s most important new feature, the Intelligent Agent Framework, is new. It aims to create a more natural and human interaction between you, HarmonyOS 6 and its new personal assistant XiaoYi.

This is a way for the OS, rather than relying solely on voice commands, to understand what you are trying to say and respond accordingly.

XiaoYi scans your entire smartphone screen to provide results, similar to Circle to Search. Huawei demonstrated HarmonyOS 6 AI framework on stage – you can ask XiaoYi for help with HarmonyOS 6 apps, or chat with ChatExcel about your Excel needs.

Touch and Share is a neat feature of HarmonyOS 6. It works between compatible PCs and smartphones. (No word yet as to which are those but they could be Huawei exclusives) You can send multiple files or connect to a multiplayer game by tapping your phone on the computer’s display.

The HarmonyOS 6 Developer Beta Program is now live, and developers can sign up until June 30. Devs need to complete verification with Huawei’s Developer Alliance to enroll.

The supported devices are the Huawei Mate 70 and 70 Pro, the Mate 60 and 60 Pro, the Mate X5, and the MatePad Pro 11-inch (2024) and MatePad Pro 13.2 (2025).
