Google announced today a surprise Pixel Drop. Previously known as a Pixel Feature Drop. These are usually released every three months, but we didn’t expect one until September. This is why they call it “a surprise”.
This gives Pixel 9 Pro owners (and presumably Pixel 9 Pro XL, Pixel 9 Pro Fold and Pixel 9 Pro XL) a year’s free subscription to Google AI Pro. This includes Veo 3, Google’s AI video creation tool.
Circle to Search will be integrated with AI Mode, allowing you to access AI Mode “advanced reasoning” to “explore complex topics and dig into your initial searches with follow-up questions” from within the app. This happens automatically when Google’s system “determine an AI response to be most helpful”If this is the case, an AI Overview will be displayed in your results. You can then tap on “dive deeper with AI Mode” for follow-up questions or “explore content across the web that’s relevant to your visual search”to get more information.
AI Mode is now available through Lens in the Google app on Android and iOS. AI Mode is only available in the US and India. Circle to Search now offers tips to help you when you get stuck in games. You’ll also see suggested videos that will help you navigate your game. This is available in countries where AI Overviews is available. The responses to AI Overviews should now be “easier to read, breaking down key information, and incorporating more visuals directly”.
Lastly, Gemini will be coming to Wear OS watches by Google, Samsung Oppo, OnePlus and Xiaomi. This will replace Google Assistant, and will use the same advanced AI model as on your smartphone. Gemini on Wear OS allows you to speak naturally on your wrist, “understanding your speech patterns and delivering fast, concise responses” .
It also works across apps so you can ask it to send a message, create a playlist, summarize an email, add stuff to your calendar, and navigate places. You just need to enable action-taking within other Google apps like Gmail and Calendar on your paired phone. Gemini can also remember details you ask it to. It’s rolling out to Wear OS watches running Wear OS 4 and later “over the coming weeks”.
