- Deep Research searches and compiles the web and then reports to Gemini Advanced subscribers.
- Information is organized and refined into results that can be viewed in Google Docs.
iPhone owners who love Google Gemini AI assistant will have a tool to help them condense the information they find online. If you are a Gemini Advanced member, the tech giant has now added its Deep Research feature for iOS devices. Deep Research was first introduced on Gemini’s website in December, and then rolled out for Android users earlier this week.
Deep Research, an AI-powered tool to compile information. It takes the classic Google search and extends it to read what is at those links, and organizes what it finds. It’s Gemini’s first “agenttic” feature, which means the AI is more proactive. It doesn’t just respond to questions; it actually carries out a research project. If you subscribe to Gemini Advanced, and you have the app installed on your iPhone you can select Deep Research from the list of models. Select “1.5 Pro With Deep Research” next to the newer, experimental 2.0 Flash model. Ask Gemini to do a big, messy, and complicated research question if you’re looking to test the limits of Gemini. Gemini will then respond with a detailed plan that it will follow on your behalf. You can change the approach by deleting sections or changing the focus. Then, tap the “start researching” button. Gemini will then go on a digital treasure hunt, searching through multiple sources, performing multiple searches and refining the findings in real time.
Do not expect instant results. It can take anywhere between five and 10 minutes to complete. If the topic is particularly difficult, it may take longer. You don’t need to watch it. Gemini will notify you when the work has been completed. You can then review your chat history to see the results. You’ll receive a structured report with all the necessary sections, tables, and sources. If you want it to look even more official you can export it straight to Google Docs.
Google won’t let you make unlimited research requests. The app will politely remind users of their daily limit, just in case they were planning to delegate all of your work to AI. Deep Research currently runs on Gemini 1.5 Pro. However, Google has hinted at a future upgrade to 2.0 Pro when the model leaves its experimental phase.

Deep Research on iPhones is important for more reasons than just accessibility. The pitch to iOS users shows how Google is aggressively leveraging Gemini for all types of productivity needs. Deep Research tries to simulate the way a human researcher breaks a topic down, refines his findings, and then presents something meaningful.
This is also a direct reaction to rival AI companies pursuing similar goals. OpenAI’s version even shares the Deep Research name. Google is betting that Deep Research, as well as other AI-driven assistants from OpenAI, Meta and Apple, will make Gemini an essential tool.
Deep Research, in many ways, is just another tool in Google’s AI arsenal. But it’s an incredibly powerful one. It’s easy for people to understand the appeal of Deep Research to those who feel overwhelmed by information online. It may not reinvent the experience of searching for information online, but Gemini could be the crowning jewel in future digital research projects.
Google boasts about Gemini Flash 2.0, but how does that compare to ChatGPT, a chatbot for casual AI users?
