In a document that was spotted by SER, Google described ads as a new method of finding information on the internet.

SEO Consultant Gagan Ghotra () pointed out an excerpt from the document which claimed that users find ads helpful in these AI search results. The company wrote

“Google internal data shows that people have been finding the ads within AI Overviews helpful because they can quickly connect with relevant businesses, products, and services to take the next step at the exact moment they need them,” in the document. Google will not share the numbers and methodology of “internal data,” however, it wants you believe that ads can be helpful. This is especially true for AI search results.

While ads aren’t always bad, they can be disruptive when they mislead or overshadow the content. Google reported 72.5 billion dollars in advertising revenue for its last quarterly report. This is expected to rise as ads move beyond the blue links.
