Google app now has a more prominent AI Mode with Live access

Google is testing new ways to make AI Mode (and Live) more visible on mobile.

In the previous design, a prominent button for AI Mode was placed in the Search bar. It rotated multi-colored. The next line gave you access to Live, voice search and Google Lens. As you scroll through the Discover feed, you will see the microphone and Lens in the field.

Google has been testing a new design that brings back the old Search Bar. Below this, you’ll see two large pill-shaped icons for “AI Mode” or “Live”with text labels. This is probably a more straightforward approach, especially if you don’t know what the Live icon means. It’s less vibrant in terms of color.

The latest Google beta app has the AI Mode and the Live shortcuts. It’s still not widely available.

Old and new

The access point is also available on the Chrome New Tab Page on desktop web. It’s not yet widely available.

The “Activity” tab in other Google app development is testing new icons. There are two designs, “Your space” or “Library.”

Google App 16.30 (currently beta) also removes Assistant’s “Routines Homescreen widget.”
