Every iPhone and Apple Watch sold in the world will’soon have’ a cover glass made in the US

Apple announced today its American Manufacturing Program. The company confirmed that they will expand their partnership with Corning and produce 100% of iPhone cover glass and Apple Watch cover glasses in Kentucky. Here are the details.

Apple announced today that $2.5 billion of its $100 billion commitment to domestic manufacturing will be used to expand its partnership with Corning.

With the new project, 100 percent of the cover glasses on iPhone and Apple Watch devices sold worldwide will be manufactured in the U.S. Steve Jobs biography.

Here is Apple CEO Tim Cook Today’s announcement:

“Corning is an storied American Company, and we are thrilled to work together to create the largest and most innovative production line for smartphone glass ever created. Customers around the world will be able to purchase a new iPhone, Apple Watch or Apple Watch with precision glass that was made in Kentucky. We are grateful to the President for his support of American manufacturing and we’re excited about the innovation this investment unlocks.”

Corning will dedicate its new facility in Harrodsburg to manufacturing for Apple as a result.

This will include increasing the local workforce by 50% and leaving money to build a new Apple-Corning Innovation Center in the plant.

OK, but when exactly? Apple’s press release about the Corning partnership was light on one important detail: deadlines.

The Corning deal has no specific timeline. Apple only says that “soon” means “every iPhone and Apple Watch sold in the world will use Kentucky-made cover glasses.” Tell us in the comments.
