Last Year, D23 wowed us with one of our favorite Star Wars toys in a long time. It was a massive, 3.75″-scaled replica of Star Tours’ original ride vehicle, the StarSpeeder 3000. The StarSpeeder 3000 could seat 25 figures, and If you remember Star Tours, it’s probably because of its modern re-imagining (which is now nearly a decade and a half old!). This weekend, you’re in luck.
Io9 has your exclusive first look atStar ToursStarspeeder as part of Disney Store’sStar Wars Day offering for May 4, this year. Except, this time the electronically-enhanced vehicle has a brand new orange-hued paint job, reflecting it as a replica of the StarSpeeder 1000, the cosmetic update given to the ride vehicle when Star Tours evolved intoThe Adventures Continue in 2011, updating the ride experience to incorporate new footage inspired by locations from the prequel trilogy as well as the original saga.
Other than the new paint job and a matching piece of box artwork inspired byThe Adventures Continue – the toy is largely the same with some minor differences as the one that was debuted at D23 in 2017. The ship has a display stand and seats that can hold up to 25 figures in 3.75” scale (complete with seatbelts!) The StarSpeeder 3000 features a display stand, as well as seats that can hold up to 25 3.75”-scaled figures (complete with seatbelts!). It also has a number of electronic enhancements including opening doors which play the classic ride chime, lights on the display stand, as well as headlights, propellers, and cannons.
A key difference is that the StarSpeeder 3000 set featured voice phrases from Captain Rex from Star Tours, while the 1000 will feature lines from C-3PO who was the new unwitting pilot in Star Tours after the refresh. This is reflected in both the included figures and the Droid Factory 3.75″‘ figures Disney sells at the parks. R2-D2 will replace Captain Rex from the D23 StarSpeeder 3000.
This time, you won’t need to travel to an event such as D23 to obtain the vehicle. This Sunday, May 4, the Star Tours The Adventures ContinueStarSpeeder 1,000 play set will be made available direct from Disney Store by clicking on this link at 11am ET/8am PST.
