China’s AI Sector Surpasses RMB 900 Billion, Capturing 15% of Global Market Share
Recent findings from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology (CAICT) reveal that China’s artificial intelligence (AI) industry has exceeded RMB 900 billion (approximately US$124 billion) in 2024, marking a robust 24% growth compared to the previous year. Projections indicate that by September 2025, the country will host over 5,300 AI enterprises, accounting for roughly 15% of the worldwide AI ecosystem. These organizations collectively establish a comprehensive industrial framework encompassing AI infrastructure, model development platforms, and application deployment.
Breakdown of Revenue Growth Across AI Industry Segments
The CAICT report highlights significant revenue increases across key segments of China’s AI industry. The infrastructure sector, which includes data centers and computing hardware essential for AI operations, saw a remarkable 54% surge, generating RMB 309.9 billion. Meanwhile, the model framework segment, responsible for developing AI algorithms and foundational models, expanded by 18%, reaching RMB 31 billion. The applications layer, driven by AI integration in consumer electronics such as smart devices and personal computers, grew by 13% to RMB 566.5 billion.
Emerging Trends: Foundation Models and Autonomous Agents Lead the Way
Looking ahead to 2025, CAICT identified the “Top 10 AI Keywords” that are expected to shape the industry’s trajectory. Among these, foundational large-scale models and autonomous agents stand out as pivotal technologies driving innovation. These advancements are anticipated to enhance AI’s capabilities in natural language processing, decision-making, and automation, further solidifying China’s position in the global AI landscape.
