ChatGPT’s daylong downtime is almost fixed

OpenAI’s ChatGPT platform was experiencing performance issues Tuesday morning. Many users reported that the service was unavailable all day. After failing to load the chatbot, it responded with an error message “Hmm…something appears to have gone wrong”. Users across X as well as Reddit report platform outages. Downdetector

showed that the issues began at 3AM ETwith multiple regions affected globally. OpenAI’s status page stated that some users began experiencing “elevated errors and latency” around that time. It noted that the issues were affecting ChatGPT and its Sora text to video AI tool, as well as OpenAI APIs. OpenAI updated its status to “partial” after adding a line at 5:23AM ET for “elevated Sora error rates.”

OpenAI’s tracker reported that the API had recovered and “nearly all ChatGPT features are now working correctly for all users.”

While some users were able access ChatGPT and found it to be sluggish, others experienced a much slower response time than usual. The outages and errors did not seem to affect everyone.

On its status page, Perplexity, an AI search engine that uses some OpenAI models reported outages as well as “slowness and increased error rates “.
