It’s time to change your plans if you use ChatGPT on WhatsApp. OpenAI announced that its ubiquitous chatbot would stop working in Meta’s ubiquitous chat app by January 15, 2026. OpenAI says the change is a result of a change in WhatsApp’s terms and conditions. OpenAI announced the changes in a blog
. The company wrote “While we would have much preferred to continue serving you on WhatsApp, we are focused on making the transition as easy for all of our users as possible,” . WhatsApp does not support exporting chats. There will be no automatic way to transfer chats after this date. There’s an easy workaround that you can use to migrate your chat history. You’ll find an option to link the ChatGPT account under the 1-800-ChatGPT profile in WhatsApp. Select this option and all your WhatsApp queries will be merged with your ChatGPT account history. We can only speculate as to why this is happening. But the term “turf war” is what comes to mind. Meta is also an AI company. It’s not good for business if 50 million people use another company’s chatbot within WhatsApp. ChatGPT can be used on the same platforms that WhatsApp uses: Android, iOS Windows, macOS, and the web.
