ChatGPT launches Codex, a new AI tool for software development

OpenAI has released ‘Codex,’ an AI agent for ChatGPT. It automates and delegate programming tasks to software engineers. OpenAI doesn’t claim that Codex will replace junior software engineers. The company claims that Codex can help developers accomplish more by delegating tasks to different agents.

The goal is to accelerate development and increase productivity with AI. But how does Codex actually work?

Codex in ChatGPT

According to OpenAI, Codex is based on codex-1, which is a new version of ChatGPT based on the existing o3 model, but it has been optimized for coding, which results in increased accuracy.

Codex pulls codebase from Github and closely mirrors the existing PR style.

It can write new code, propose pull requests, and run each task in its own sandbox.

“Task completion typically takes between 1 and 30 minutes, depending on complexity, and you can monitor Codex’s progress in real time,” Openai””https://openai.com/index/introducing-codex/” ” rel=””nofollow noopener”” target=””_blank” “> In a blog, was noted.

“Once Codex completes a task, it commits its changes in its environment. Codex provides verifiable evidence of its actions through citations of terminal logs and test outputs, allowing you to trace each step taken during task completion.”

Codex will be available, but only to those who have a Pro subscription which costs $200 a month.
