CATL is actively looking for new growth areas in the face of a slowdown in the main business, automotive power batteries. LatePost revealed CATL has established a team in Shanghai for the independent development of industrial robots. CATL also plans to invest in companies that produce humanoid robotics. It is also focusing its attention on cutting-edge technology such as superconductors that operate at room temperature and controlled nuclear fusion.
According to a report by LatePost, CATL established a team in Shanghai of dozens of employees, focusing on research and development of robot bodies, control, and algorithms for human-machine interactions. The company plans to manufacture industrial robotics such as AGVs and robotic arms.
CATL’s robot team, according to sources, is currently researching motion control algorithms and perception algorithms for industrial robots. The initial plan is to design, manufacture and use complete industrial robots in their battery factories.
Since the end of the last year, CATL has increased its investment in robotics. They have done research on humanoid robotic companies, but haven’t yet clarified their plans for research and development of humanoid machines. CATL will invest in humanoid robotic companies to generate financial gain. They have been in contact with Galaxy Universal and other companies, and plan to invest into a company that manufactures humanoid robotic bodies.
Sources say that CATL, in addition to robotics, has recently tried to contact startups working on such areas as superconductors at room temperature and controlled nuclear fusion. This Chinese technology giant with a value of over one trillion yuan has even greater ambitions to deploy cutting-edge technologies.
