According to Reuters, Apple is in talks with Tencent & ByteDance about incorporating their AI models in iPhones sold in China. Apple is facing challenges with its AI offerings on the Chinese market. Apple Intelligence, which was expected to be the iPhone 16’s major selling feature, was not available in China due to restrictions on OpenAI’s ChatGPT. This software is banned in China. Apple considered Samsung’s solution, which involved collaborating and integrating Baidu’s advanced Ernie 4.0 model into Chinese devices. Negotiations with Baidu were not without obstacles. Apple’s discussions about Tencent and ByteDance, according to sources, are part of a larger effort to adapt its products to local regulations in China and user preferences. These discussions are still in their preliminary stages. [Reuters]
