Alibaba’s AI strategy is boosted by Amap’s spatial Intelligence upgrade

Alibaba has released a version of its map app that is AI-native

. This update, which is billed as the first AI-native app in the world, introduces “spatial Intelligence” to enhance navigation for users and local services. The upgrade includes Xiao Gao – an AI travel assistant powered through Qwen models from Alibaba. It provides personalized journey solutions by using autonomous reasoning and specialized tool.

Amap’s comprehensive AI upgrade aligns to one of Alibaba Group’s three-year AI investments priorities announced in February – the AI Transformation of Existing Businesses. Alibaba is also investing heavily in AI and cloud computing, foundational AI models platforms, and native AI apps.

Amap, a Chinese provider, offers mobile digital mapping and navigation services, as well as real-time traffic data. Users can access a single portal that includes navigation, local lifestyle features and ride-hailing. It boasts more than 1 billion active users.[ Alibaba]
