GFEAI-2025 concludes successfully: PM Paetongtarn backs human-centric AI, AIGPC emerges as regional AI ethics hub Thailand concluded the 3rd UNESCO Global Forum on the Ethics of Artificial Intelligence, held from 24-27th June at Centara Grand in Bangkok. The forum, which attracted over 1,000 participants from 100 countries, served as a platform for a global dialogue on responsibleand human-centric AI.
Prime minister Paetongtarn opened the forum, and presented the vision of the government, ” AI for Every Human “. This vision focuses on using AI to improve quality of life in sectors such as education, healthcare, and agriculture, while also addressing digital threats by promoting literacy and protection. PM announced a landmark USD 15,4 billion investment in AI with the goal of driving at least THB 4 Billion in economic value by 2020.
A highlight was the launch of the AI Governance Practice Center (AIGPC),which is the first AI Ethics Centre in Asia-Pacific, and will support the UNESCO Category 2-Centre status.
The Deputy Prime Minister and Ministry of Digital Economy and Society H.E. Mr. Prasert reiterated Thailand’s commitment towards AI that aligns itself with ethical principles and national priority. Under the National AI Strategy, the government aims to reach 90% of AI specialists who are trained, 50,000 developers and over 10,000,000 users .
Discussions were also held to advance the Global Network of AI Supervising Authorities(GNAIS)aiming to create global code of conduct rooted on human rights and inclusivity. Thailand’s leadership on AI governance has been further strengthened through bilateral engagements with Indonesia (AI Ethics), Malaysia (smart city and digital gaming), India, and a focus on expert exchange and project developments.
Thailand endorsed UNESCO’s Readiness Assessment Methodology(RAM)to guide AI policy and regulation, workforce development and open data practices throughout ASEAN. The tripartite MoU signed by ETDA, NECTEC and DataDotOrg, which aims to create 10,000 AI/data professionals, and a sustainable AI educational ecosystem, was a key milestone.
Youth involvement was prominent with more than200 Thai students taking part in the “AI for Children” session. Thailand launched initiatives based on UNICEF data such as the Digital Vaccine powered DQ, YDCD and Digitally Ready with a goal to build AI-ready school in over 10 countries before 2026.
GFEAI2025 marked an important milestone in positioning Thailand to be a strategic and ethical AI leader–both in Southeast Asia as well as globally.
