Meta isn’t finished stealing talent from OpenAI.
TechCrunch reported earlier this week that Meta had hired influential OpenAI research Trapit Bansal. The Wall Street Journalreports that the company also hired three additional researchers. The Information reports that
the company has hired three other researchers. Four more Meta hiresfrom OpenAI: Researchers Shengjia Zha, Jiahui Yü, Shuchao Bi and Hongyu Ren.
The hiring spree follows the April launch by Meta of its Llama 4 models, which did not perform as CEO Mark Zuckerberg hoped. The company was also criticized for the version of Llama it used as a popular benchmark.
The two companies have been in a back-and forth, with OpenAI’s CEO Sam Altman claiming that Meta offered “$100 million in signing bonuses”while stating that “so, far, none of our top people” has left. Meta CTO Andrew Bosworth told employees that although senior leaders might have been offered this kind of money, the “actual terms of the offer” was more complex than just a one-time signing bonuses.
