Meta continues to reap the rewards of its aggressive push to make AI a ubiquitous presence within its apps. Mark Zuckerberg revealed in aupdate that Meta AI is “nearly 600 million” monthly users away from its next major milestone. Meta AI, launched last fall, has passed 500 million monthly users.
This update was released along with Meta’s Llama 3.0 70B model. According to Meta, this latest text model is “similar to the Llama 3.1 405B” but “at a fraction the cost.” Ahmad Al-Dahle posted a chart to X showing that Llama 3.3 outperformed Google’s Gemini Pro 1,5 and OpenAI’s GPT-4o on several benchmarks.

Zuckerberg also briefly teased the next major release. Zuckerberg announced in an Instagram video that “the next stop is Llama 4.” He noted that the 3.3 update was the “last major AI update of the Year.” Zuckerberg has been relatively tight-lipped so far about what Llama 4 will bring, but he has offered some hints. The CEO stated that earlier this year the model was being tested on a cluster consisting of more than 100,000 H100s. A release of the “smaller Llama 4” models is expected “sometime in early next year.”
