In its budget for the spring, the federal government announced a $2 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI).
In the spring, the government announced a $2 billion investment in artificial intelligence (AI) computing power. Now, it explains how the funding will be allocated. Up to $300 million more will be spent to provide small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) with affordable access to computing power. Up to $1 billion of the total will be spent on the construction of a transformational public computing infrastructure.
According to the government, Canada’s AI industry is “a key driver of productivity and innovation as well as economic growth”noting that 140,000 “actively involved AI professionals” in Canada will be working between 2022 and 2030.
