OpenAI plans to ship a ChatGPT update that will activate the new o3 Pro, which has a higher compute capacity to think harder. ChatGPT offers o4 mini, o4 mini-high, GPT 4.1, GPT 4.1-mini and o3 to $20 Plus subscribers. ChatGPT’s $200 Pro subscription includes all of these models plus an o1 Pro version, which gives you more compute power to think harder.
The o1 Pro feels outdated because we now have the better o3 model. This could soon change with the o3 Pro.
As OpenAI hinted that it will soon replace o1 Pro with o3 Pro at an event in New Delhi. This will give Pro users more power to tackle difficult problems.
Although o3 outperforms the o1 benchmarks, o1 pro provides extra compute to improve reliability on difficult tasks.
In the past, o1 Pro has outperformed o1-preview on more difficult benchmarks such as math contests and coding challenges.
It is expected that o3 Pro will combine o3’s stronger baseline reasoning and these reliability gains. It will enhance the thinking capabilities of o3’s existing model and allow Pro users do more. OpenAI could announce the o3 Pro for $200 Pro subscriptions as early as next month or later in this month.
