Google may show a generative AI summary of local conditions when you search “weather” from your mobile device.
Google displays this new card in between the hourly forecast and 10-day outlook. You will get two lines by default before you need to tap and expand. Google’s “Generative AI” is an experimental experience, just like other similar experiences.
The Southern California foothills and mountains are facing gusty winds and storms Tuesday afternoon. A low-pressure area is bringing rip currents, dry lighting, and thunderstorms to the coast. Strong winds may cause tree limbs to fall, and dry lighting poses a risk of wildfire. The weather is expected to improve by Wednesday with a warming trend by the weekend.
Tapping on the link icon brings up a sheet of articles about the weather in your area, which Google presumably used to generate the AI Overviews summary.
This is different from the AI Weather Report that comes with the Pixel 9. The Google Search experience is more descriptive and explains the conditions.
This is what we’re seeing with the search terms “ Weather Los Angeles” and ” Weather San Diego” This experience appears to be limited to Southern California. Other cities in the state, such as San Francisco, do not return this AI weather summary. This is likely still in testing.
This is only appearing in the Google app and on mobile web for a few signed-in accounts. (One has the “AI overviews and more” Search Lab activated and the other does not). It doesn’t appear when logged-out or on desktop web.
It only appears in Google Search results, not the app-like Google Weather that opens a fullscreen.
