Microsoft now tests AI-generated text for Windows Notepad

Microsoft began rolling out a new Windows 11 Insiders update yesterday on the Dev Channel and Canary Channel. This update adds new AI features to Notepad Paint and the Snipping Tool.

Notepad can now write text from scratch with generative AI. This is intended to help you by quickly creating drafts based upon your prompts and directions. Click anywhere in the document to use AI text generation. Then select write. Enter your instructions and then click Save Text (or Delete ) on the results. To use Write in Notepad, you’ll need to have a Microsoft account. You will also need AI credits.

Paint has a brand new AI-generated stickers feature, as well as a smart selection tool that is AI-assisted for isolating, editing, and modifying elements in an image. Snipping Tool also has a “perfect screenshot” AI-powered feature to capture your screen without having to crop or resize it afterwards. Paint’s AI features are only available on Copilot+ computers, while Snipping Tool features are available on all computers.

This is part of Microsoft’s strategy for bringing AI experiences to Notepad Paint and other Windows applications. This article was originally published in our sister publication PC for Alla (19459025) and has been translated and localized.
