Jade Raymond, a Canadian video game producer, has left Montreal’s Haven Studios. The team behind the upcoming competitive shooter Fairgame$has also left the studio. Bloombergwas the first to report on this news with confirmation coming from Haven’s parent company PlayStation. The game was announced two years ago, but we haven’t seen anything since. Bloombergreported that Raymond’s departure came weeks after a test by fairgame$. According to the publication, some Haven developers are “concerned,” about the reception of the test as well as the progress of the game. The developers said that the game was originally slated for a launch in fall 2025, but it has now been delayed until next spring. Fairgame$is a notable part of PlayStation because Haven, the company’s only Canadian studio that it acquired in 2022, was a key part of its portfolio. Raymond is a major player within the gaming industry. She helped to create Ubisoft’s massiveWatch Dogs and Watch Dogs series, and founded Ubisoft Toronto and EA Motive.
Raymond later led Stadia’s first party games division. However, Google quickly shut it down, and she left the company. This led her to found Haven with a few of her former colleagues. It’s not clear where Raymond will go next. Fairgame$
is also important because it’s one of the last games that PlayStation’s struggling multi-player game business has. Bungie, which was acquired by the company in 2022 after its acquisition of Destiny ( ) maker Bungie. The company stated that this would allow it to ship more than ten live service games by 2026. PlayStation’s multiplayer efforts, aside from last year’sHelldivers 2have not taken off.
For example, PlayStation’s long-gestatingLast of Usmulti-player title was cancelled in 2023. The following year, PlayStation shut down its London studio, which had been working on a online co-op video game. Deviation Games was a third-party made up ofCall of Duty veterans who were also working on a PlayStation multi-player game before it closed in 2024. Insomniac Games has reportedly cancelled two unannounced PlayStation Live service titlesincluding one based uponGod of War.
The biggest mistake was Concord, aOverwatch,-style hero shooting game from Firewalk Studios. This team is led by former Destiny, developers. The game was launched last year with mixed reviews and low player numbers, which led to it being delisted two weeks later and Firewalk being shut down.
It’s clear that PlayStation, like many other companies, has had a lot of trouble with its live service. This doesn’t inspire confidence thatfairgame$is going to do much better. It is yet to be seen how the game will turn out.
The company is releasing two highly anticipated single-player games this year. Death Stranding 2 On the Beach on June 26 and Ghost of Yotei (October 2)
Bungie’s next multiplayer title,Marathon, will be released on September 23.
