Tsinghua University opens AI-driven hospital for training next-generation doctors

Tsinghua University Celebrates Their 114th Anniversary

Tsinghua University announced the launch of Tsinghua AI Agent Hospital, one of China’s premier research institutions on April 26. According to the university, the project aims at integrating artificial intelligence into the design of hospital systems by embedding intelligent agents in the system’s core. This will assist doctors with their decisions. The AI hospital will initially operate in partnership Beijing Tsinghua Changgung Hospital, and its affiliated Internet hospital, piloting general practice, ophthalmology and radiology care. Tsinghua intends to expand the model in time, with a goal to create an “AI + Healthcare + Education + Research”to increase access to medical care in China. The initiative focuses on training a new breed of “AI-collaborative doctors” who will be trained to work with AI systems in clinical settings. Huang Tianyin is Tsinghua’s associate vice president and dean of the School of Medicine. He says the approach is meant to address challenges like the shortage of general practitioners, especially in rural and underserved regions. [iThome(19459026]in Chinese]
