A Desktime survey, conducted between January and December 2024 with 2,385 employees from 97 companies, using its time-tracking software, claims ChatGPT is the most widely used AI in workplaces around the world, with adoption rates growing.
According to the survey, by December 2024, 75.9% offices worldwide had integrated ChatGPT in their workflows. India led the way with 92% of the workplaces surveyed using the tool.
US ChatGPT adoption is below the global average
The US workplace adoption increased from 68% in 2020 to 72% by 2024. While this growth was slower than in other regions, the amount of time spent using ChatGPT has increased significantly. 42.6% employees reported greater usage.
Individual adoption in the US reached 28,3% of employees, a significant increase from 17% in 2020. This indicates that, while AI is being used more by employees in their work, the company-wide adoption has slowed. DeskTime’s study found that 75% of US offices will use AI tools in 2024. This is a slight decrease from 76% the year before.
It is interesting to note that AI adoption fluctuated over the course of the year. In January 2024, usage dropped to 63% before increasing to 81% in October. These variations indicate that seasonal work trends, corporate policies, or changing attitudes towards automation may influence AI adoption.
Despite its widespread use, ChatGPT adoption is slower in new workplaces. This indicates that businesses who have not been exposed to it before are hesitant.
Despite the fact that ChatGPT adoption is different across offices, it is still used in nearly 75% of US work places. The slow growth of ChatGPT could be attributed both to the adoption of generative AI tools and to company policies that restrict or prohibit the use of ChatGPT in the workplace due to concerns over data security and confidentiality.” said Artis Rozentals, CEO of DeskTime.
“Apple, Amazon, and Bank of America, for example, are well-known companies known to have restrictions regarding the tool’s usage.
