Microsoft launches native Mac application for Copilot

Microsoft makes its Copilot AI assistant as a Mac application available. The native macOS The app will provide access to the Microsoft web-based tool. The US, UK and Canada are all getting it today. In practice, Copilot’s app functionality is almost identical to that of the web version. The only difference is that the Mac version has a keyboard shortcut to activate the AI assistant by pressing Command + Space, and can be viewed in a dark mode.

Microsoft announced earlier this week that the Copilot features Voice, and Think Deeper which uses OpenAI’s O1 model, would be available to all users for free. Both moves seem to be aimed at expanding the company’s Copilot audience.

It has been a long and rocky road for big tech companies to try to make their software compatible with rival hardware. It can take many years to optimize a service for a brand’s specifications. Microsoft’s arrival of a macOS app for Copilot (which is already available as an iPhone and iPad application) might be the fastest it has ever brought a Microsoft service to Apple’s ecosystem.
