Metal Gear Solid Delta, a mention in the list of Most Anticipated PC Games for 2025, will be released on August 28. Konami quietly posted the minimum PC requirements on its Steam page. This sparked speculation about the Unreal Engine 5 game’s reliance on hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing.

Metal Gear Solid Delta Snake Eater The game requires a Nvidia RTX 2060 with 8GB VRAM, 16 GB system memory, and at least 100GB of storage. Konami does not specify the target frame rates or resolutions for the game. It also recommends using a 3080. The 2060 Super isn’t a demanding GPU by most standards. However, the omissions of all AMD cards and high-end GTX 10 Series GPUs raises questions as to why the RTX 20 is the minimum specification.

Recent and upcoming games like Star Wars Outlaws and Indiana Jones and the Great Circle require some ray tracing for all graphics presets. This has a severe impact on the performance of GTX 10 series graphics and AMD GPUs. This trend could make people suspicious of any new game that lists RTX 20 as a minimum system requirement.

Metal Gear Solid Delta, a remake of 2004’s Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater, runs on Unreal Engine 5, which likely means it uses Epic’s ray tracing tech, Lumen. However, it’s unclear whether the game relies solely on the software version, which runs entirely on the CPU or takes advantage of the GPU-accelerated hardware version. The latter delivers better visuals but comes with the same performance costs as other forms of ray tracing.

Silent Hill 2, another Unreal Engine 5-based remake from Konami, supports both options. Furthermore, it lists GTX 10 series, AMD, and Intel GPUs under its minimum requirements, suggesting that Metal Gear Solid Delta could be more demanding.

It’s hard to tell whether Bloober Team worked on Silent Hill 2 and influenced Metal Gear Solid Delta. Bloober Team, an external studio, has shipped multiple Unreal Engine 5 games and recently Konami announced a new collaboration. Virtuous is working on Metal Gear Solid Delta as its first project using the engine. It’s not clear if they have communicated.

The GTX 10 series’ age is also a factor, as it was launched almost nine years ago. Upgrades to a new GPU have recently become prohibitively costly, but the industry is rapidly reaching a stage where all active models are capable of hardware-accelerated Ray Tracing, which encourages some developers to abandon rasterized graphics.
