This weekend, Red Shark News conducted an interview with editor David Jancso. He revealed that the Brutalist’s use of AI tools from Ukrainian special Respeecher was used to make small adjustments to the Hungarian dialog spoken by Adrien Brody and Felicity Jones. Jancso mentioned that AI was also used to create the architectural designs and structures in The Brtalist’s (19459062) closing sequence.
The AI story has sparked outrage in the film community. Some have suggested thatThe Brutalist be disqualified from award contention. Director Brady Corbet issued a statement clarifying the AI use. He stated that the actors’ portrayals were “completely theirs” and the AI “preserved authenticity” in said performances.
Corbet stated in a press release that “Adrien’s and Felicity’s performances are their own.” Deadline“They worked with dialect coach Tanera Marsh for months to perfect their accents. Innovative Respeecher was used only in Hungarian language dialog editing, specifically to refine certain vowels or letters for accuracy. No English was changed. This was a manual post-production process done by our sound crew and Respeecher. The goal was to preserve the authenticity and quality of Adrien and Felicity’s performances in another tongue, not to replace them or alter them, and done with utmost respect to the craft.” All images were drawn by artists. To clarify, the memorial video featured as the background of the shot was created by our editorial team to look like poor digital renditions circa 1980.”
Corbet concluded with this statement: “The Brutalist is a film that celebrates human complexity. Every aspect of its creation has been driven by human creativity, effort, and collaboration.” We are incredibly proud and grateful for our team’s work.
