Meta Llama Impact Accelerator 2025 Empowers 12 African AI Startups with Funding and Mentorship
The Meta Llama Impact Accelerator 2025 has successfully supported a cohort of 12 innovative AI startups across Sub-Saharan Africa, following an intensive program of training and mentorship. The initiative culminated in a Demo Day held in four key countries: Nigeria, Senegal, Kenya, and South Africa.
Funding and Competition Structure
Each country saw three startups receive initial funding totaling $50,000, with the top three from each nation advancing to compete for a substantial regional prize of up to $100,000. This final competition will take place at the AI Summit 2025, scheduled for November 3-4 in Dubai.

Balkissa Siddo, Meta’s Director for Public Policy in Sub-Saharan Africa, highlighted the accelerator’s role in nurturing AI-driven solutions tailored to local challenges. “The Meta Llama 2025 Impact Accelerator has catalyzed a new wave of AI innovation in collaboration with local partners and government bodies,” Siddo remarked. “We are proud of the pioneering technologies these startups have created, which address critical issues in sectors such as healthcare, education, agriculture, public services, and security.”

Nigeria
- Second Place: Purple Labs – Creators of MediSync, an AI-based diagnostic platform set to revolutionize patient care.
- Third Place: DAWN AI Study – Innovating inclusive education through AI-driven early assessments and emotional-cognitive support systems.
Senegal
- First Place ($25,000): Kajou – Providing offline AI-powered e-learning tools for community health workers via the kSANTE platform.
- Second Place ($15,000): SamaCoach – Enhancing public health with AI-enabled personalized fitness programs.
- Third Place ($10,000): LOOKA – Addressing Africa’s data scarcity with an AI-driven market intelligence platform.
South Africa
- First Place ($25,000): EFama – An AI-powered marketplace connecting buyers and sellers efficiently.
- Second Place ($15,000): CatalyzU – Leveraging AI to tailor workforce training and skill development aligned with business needs.
- Third Place ($10,000): Four Minute Medicine – Utilizing AI simulations and microlearning to minimize errors in healthcare training.
Kenya
- First Place ($25,000): DPE – Revolutionizing public health communication through localized AI-generated messaging.
- Second Place ($15,000): Esheria Ventures – Developing Kenya’s first multilingual digital paralegal powered by AI.
- Third Place ($10,000): NeuralLabs Africa – Closing diagnostic gaps with AI-enhanced radiology tools.
Post-Accelerator Support and Impact
Following Demo Day, all participating startups will benefit from six months of continued support, including expert business consulting, technical guidance, and increased exposure within the AI ecosystem. This comprehensive assistance aims to accelerate their growth and scalability.
The accelerator attracted over 1,400 applications from across the region, with 40 startups selected to participate in a rigorous six-week program. This included customized business development sessions to sharpen market entry strategies, technical workshops led by Meta engineers, and mentorship from seasoned AI professionals, investors, and business strategists.
