Annie Altman is the sister of OpenAI CEO and founder Sam Altman. She has filed a lawsuit against her brother, accusing him of sexually abusing her when she was underage. Annie Altman filed a complaint this week in a Missouri federal district court alleging that her older brother committed a number of acts including rape, sexual abuse, molestation and sodomy from 1997 to 2006. The abuse began when she was just three years old. Sam Altman, his mother, and two younger siblings made a joint statement in which they said that “all [Annieโs] allegations are utterly false.” The Altmans claim to have tried to support Annie “many different ways” over the past years, including offering direct financial aid.
Annie has made hurtful and completely untrue allegations about our family, particularly Sam. We have chosen not to respond in public, out of respect for both her privacy and ours. We feel compelled to respond because she has taken legal action against Sam. “… The situation is causing immense pain to the entire family.”
Annie Altman has made similar accusations online over the past few years. In a March 2023 X post, she wrote: “I’m no longer four years old and have a 13-year-old ‘brother” climbing into my bed without consent. Altman is seeking a jury trial as part of her lawsuit and damages exceeding $75,000 According to The New York Times,$75,000 is the required minimum for a federal suit of this type. Her lawyer told The Times that she also wants punitive damages, based on the net worth of her brother. This could be made public as part of discovery.
