Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 family will launch on September 9. There have been many rumors that preceded this, stating that the iPhone 17 Air would replace the iPhone 16 Plus due to its poor sales performance.
However, this leaves a mystery as to which chipset will be used in the Air. Will it be a Pro SoC? Apple’s Pro iPhones use the Pro chipset. But the Air isn’t a Pro so will it have a chip like the vanilla iPhone 17? A new rumor from China confirms that the Air will not use the A19 Pro SoC.
But there’s one small catch. It will not be the exact same A19 Pro that will be featured in the iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro Max. The Air’s version, however, will have a smaller GPU and one less core. This is the only difference. The iPhone 17 Air will only have five GPU cores. According to the same source, the iPhone 17 Air screen will not be as good as the iPhone 17 Pro. The Air is now rumored as being 5.65mm-5.7mm thick.
The rumor contradicts an earlier one from July that claimed the iPhone 17 Air was equipped with the same A19 chip as the iPhone 17. We can’t tell which rumor is true.
