Microsoft Edge now has a ‘AI-powered’ browser with Copilot Mode

Microsoft introduced Copilot Mode, a feature that is an experimental feature to transform Microsoft Edge into web browser powered by AI.

According to the company’s explanation on Monday, Copilot Mode transforms Edge, with new tabs displaying a single input field that combines chat functions, search functions, and web navigation.

When Copilot Mode
has been enabled, the AI assistant can analyze all browser tabs, with the user’s consent, and compare information, as well as assist with various tasks such a researching vacation rentals.

“With Copilot Mode on, you enable innovative AI features in Edge that enhance your browser. It doesn’t just wait idly for you to click but anticipates what you might want to do next. It doesn’t just give you endless tabs to sift through but works with you as a collaborator that makes sense of it all,”
Sean Lyndersay, VP of Microsoft Edge Product
said.

“It keeps you browsing, cuts through clutter and removes friction to unlock your flow – all built to the highest Microsoft standards of security, privacy and performance trusted by billions of people and businesses worldwide – with you as the user always in control.”

Copilot Mode includes natural voice navigation. Users can speak commands directly to Copilot to perform tasks such as opening tabs for comparisons between products, or finding webpage information.

Microsoft intends to expand Copilot Mode to include advanced actions such as booking reservations and managing user tasks.

Redmond says that the data collection policy adheres with the company’s privacy standard, allowing users the control of how their information will be shared via Personalization settings.

Visual indicators will also be displayed when Copilot’s active. Users can turn the feature off through their browser settings. Lyndersay stated.

“With Copilot Mode, you can also choose to turn the experience on and off as you wish through your Edge settings. If you choose not to turn on Copilot Mode, you can continue to browse on Edge as usual.”

Copilot will be free for a limited period of time as a feature that can be opted-in in all Copilot markets, exclusively on Edge for Windows or Mac systems.
