Microsoft will spend $80 billion this year on data centers

Microsoft published a long article talking about its vision of artificial intelligence development in the next four-year period, under the new Trump administration. The company revealed in the article that it will spend $80 billion by 2025 on AI-enabled servers. Microsoft said that it is building the data centers in order to be able train and deploy AI models as well as power its cloud-based apps. More than half of Microsoft’s budget will be spent on building data centers in America.

According to the company, without the support of the government for AI advancement in the US, none of the progress the industry has made so far would have been possible “without new partnerships founded on large-scale infrastructure investments.” They are now calling on the incoming Trump Administration to increase the funding of research at US universities and the National Science Foundation. Microsoft acknowledged in the article that it knows AI is “disrupt the economy and displace some jobs,” and it also said that its “confidence has grown that AI will create new opportunities that will outweigh many of the challenges ahead.” Microsoft explained that the key to using AI for jobs is to train Americans to be able to use it as a tool, similar to what they do with smartphones and laptops. It said that promotion of American AI exports is the third critical priority by 2025. The US will have to develop a smart strategy to compete with China in spreading their technologies to other nations.
