Sources told Reuters that NVIDIA had placed an order with TSMC for 300,000 H20 AI chip last week to meet the surging demand on the Chinese market. Sources said that the new order would be added to NVIDIA’s existing inventory of between 600,000 and 700,000 H20 chip. The US resumed export licenses last month for the H20 chip after a three-month ban. The H20 is NVIDIA’s sole AI chip that is currently available legally in China. Chinese tech giants like Tencent and ByteDance are eager to purchase it. The H20 is only 20% as powerful as the international H100, but its performance is still sufficient to support large AI model inference requirements.[Reuters]
